12 out of 18 tracks were laid in the depot
The first corridor is to be built between IIT and Naubasta in Kanpur, whose depot is being prepared in the campus of Government Polytechnic. Under the first corridor, a trial run between IIT and Motijheel is proposed in November-2021. If the trial is done on time, it will become the fastest metro corridor to be constructed in the country. The depot work will be completed by the end of August. About 65% of the work has been completed so far. A total of 18 lines are to be laid in the depot, out of which 12 have been laid.
2 types of tracks being prepared
Two different types of tracks are being prepared in the mainline and depot of the metro corridor. Ballast track (including ballast) track is to be laid at Metro depot, while ballast-less (ballast-free) track is being prepared on mainline viaduct. Along with the track, the work of signaling, telecom and electrical systems is also being done at a fast pace.
