Graham Potter Snubs Lyon Managerial Role as French Club Lineup Laurent Blanc Replacements – News18

English manager GrahamPotter has reportedly turned down an offer to coach French Ligue1 side Lyon, who are looking for a replacement to take the reins of a team that seems to be struggling under the tutelage of World Cup winner Laurent Blanc.

According to sources, Potter, who has been without a club since his previous side Chelsea decided to instate Argentine coach Mauricio Pochettino at the helm of the London side, feels the time is not right for him to make a managerial return.

Lyon rot at the bottom of the French domestic circuit in the early parts of the season as they sit at the very last position due to their winless record in the four outings they have had this campaign.

Lyon had lined up Potter as their top choice to replace the legendary Frenchman at the club, however, following the Englishman’s decision to not take up the role, the French unit will likely look at Lille boss Paulo Fonseca or Julien Lopetegui, who has also been without a club since his departure from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Potter, who made the switch to Chelsea after the spectacular job he did at Brighton, started off life at Stamford Bridge in relatively good fashion, before the relationship came crashing down quickly. The 48-year-old, who was touted to be the next big manager in the English fold, was dismissed rather unceremoniously after just 31 games at the helm of the London side.

Bruno Saltar was appointed the caretaker manager before Chelsea legend Frank Lampard saw out the season as the Blues’ manager, after which the club completed the signing of former Tottenham manager Pochettino.

The capital city club are currently 13th in the league table after having lost twice in their opening four games of the Premier League season, while also managing to claim a win and a draw each.

The Blues need to buck up and improve considerably if they are to produce a campaign up to the standards expected from new owner Todd Boehly, who has spent a fortune on the recruitment of new players ever since his takeover of the club last year.
