Dunith Wellalage bowled a straight, quick delivery and Rohit Sharma could not bring his bat down on time, as the ball rearranged his timber.
Former Sri Lanka captain Marvan Attapatu suggested that Rohit Sharma was a bit unlucky in getting dismissed in the Super 4 clash on Tuesday in Asia Cup 2023. Rohit looked in sublime touch and was dismissed for 53 by young Dunith Wellalage as he failed to convert his half-century into a triple-digit score once again.
Rohit smashed the Sri Lankan pacers all around the park but played the spinners cautiously as Wellalage took advantage of it and got his prized scalp. It was the first ball of the 16th over when Rohit was deceived by the bounce of the delivery.

He bowled a straight, quick delivery and Rohit could not bring his bat down on time, as the ball rearranged his timber.
Former Sri Lanka skipper Attapatu said that he feels sorry for the Indian captain and suggested that any batter would have played that delivery the same way.
“I am lost for words. I feel for him, feel very sorry for him. Any batsman around the world would have played the shot the same way,” said Marvan Attapatu on Star Sports.
Former India batter Sanjay Manjrekar also talked about the dismissal and said that Rohit was not ready to make a commitment on that delivery.
“Huge fan of the length. The young man has bowled a length where Rohit Sharma was not ready to make a commitment – neither on the front foot, neither on the backfoot, and that’s when you want the ball to come easily off the pitch,” he added.
However, Manjrekar also commented that Rohit was a bit unfortunate that the ball was kept low.
Unfortunately for him, the ball kept low but you have got to credit the bowler than find faults with the batter,” Manjrekar said on Rohit Sharma’s dismissal.

During his innings, the Indian captain also went past a significant personal milestone, becoming the sixth Indian batsman to score 10,000 runs in ODIs.
Other Indian batsmen to reach the mark are Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni.
Wellalage and part-timer Charith Asalanka spun a web around the Indian batters and restricted them to a sub-par 213 in their Asia Cup Super 4 match on Tuesday. Left-arm spinner Wellalage (5/40), all of 20, and Asalanka (4/18) knifed through the star-studded line-up after India opted to bat.
