Rohit Sharma’s presser was interrupted by fans bursting crackers following India’s Asia Cup triumph and Rohit left everyone in splits with a ‘World Cup’ remark

Indian captain Rohit Sharma is a pure entertainer, not only does Rohit always speak what’s on his mind, he is never shy to express his thoughts in front of fans or the media. During his press conference after India’s Asia Cup 2023 win, Rohit gave a million-dollar reaction as fans started to burst crackers to celebrate India’s triumph.

Rohit’s post-match press conference after India won a record-extending eighth Asia Cup crown was interrupted when fans started bursting crackers nearby. Upon hearing the sound of the crackers, Rohit paused for a moment before winning the fans’ hearts with a glorious reply.

The Indian captain quipped those bursting crackers should wait for India to win the ODI World Cup 2023, just as Rohit said those words, the entire media persons present in the room burst out in laughter.

Talking about India’s win in the Asia Cup, Rohit was reflecting back on the journey when the incident happened.

“It gives us a lot of confidence to come here and win a tournament like this, through the tournament we saw a lot of..” said Rohit when the noise of the bursting crackers interrupted him.

“Arey World Cup jeetne ke baad photo ye sab..(burst crackers after we win the world cup)”, said Rohit with a beaming smile on his face as India won their first major trophy in five years, the Asia Cup 2018 triumph under Rohit’s captaincy was the last major title the Indian team had lifted.

India outplayed Sri Lanka in the title clash in Colombo’s R. Premadasa Stadium as the Indian team restricted the co-hosts to a below-par total of 50 runs thanks to Mohammed Siraj’s fiery spell of 6/21.

In reply, the duo of Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill breezed to the required total of 51 in just 6.1 overs giving India their shortest successful chase in ODI history, and fifth overall in the fifty overs format.

After the Asia Cup triumph, Rohit and Co. begin their final preparations for the ODI World Cup 2023 as they will kick-start their journey in the home World Cup on October 8 against Australia.

Before the World Cup, India will face Australia in a three-match ODI series at home starting from September 22, for which the Indian team will head home from Colombo before reassembling in Mohali on September 20.
