Maharashtra News: The police on Friday received information about a foul smell emanating from an abandoned house in the locality, following which the girl’s body was discovered
A 31-year-old man was arrested two days after a decomposed body of a six-year-old girl was found inside a plastic storage drum at an abandoned house in Bhiwandi of Maharashtra’s Thane district.
The accused had allegedly kidnapped and killed the girl following which he concealed the body in water storage drum, an official said.
Senior inspector Chetan Kakade said the police were interrogating the accused to determine the motive behind the crime.
The child had gone missing from Fene village in Bhiwandi’s Kamatghar on September 13, following which her parents — who are factory workers — filed a complaint of kidnapping with the police.
The arrested was taken into custody by the police as he went missing from the locality at the same time as the girl. The Bhiwandi town police registered an FIR under section 363 (kidnapping) of the Indian Penal Code.
The police on Friday received information about a foul smell emanating from an abandoned house in the locality. Upon investigating, they found the girl’s body concealed in a plastic storage drum kept in an abandoned house in the locality, the official said. The girl’s body was then sent for post-mortem to JJ Hospital in Mumbai.
A case then was registered under sections 302 (murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence) of the Indian Penal Code and further probe was in progress.
In other case, a man allegedly bashed his 18-month-old daughter to death following a quarrel with his wife in Maharashtra’s Thane district on September 10.
The police arrested Altaf Mohammad Samiullah Ansari (26) under sections 302 (murder), 325 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt) and other relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code, an official said.
The incident took place around 6 pm on September 8, when the accused in a fit of rage beat up his wife and dragged her and his daughter out of their house in Abhay Nagar area of Daighargaon, he said.
He allegedly threw the baby on the floor with force and killed her on the spot, the official said.
The accused was an alcoholic and frequently quarreled with his wife, he said, adding that the case was registered based on a complaint lodged by the woman.
