The squad is being led by Sharat Kamal and Manika Batra as they will be beginning their campaign on September 22. The Gongshu Canal Sports Park Gymnasium will host all the table tennis events at the 19th Asian Games.
Table tennis first featured at the Asian Games in the third edition of the continental event back in 1958. The sport has been played at all the following editions except in 1970. India hadn’t landed a medal at the event up until 2018. It was Sharath Kamal and Manika Batra who secured bronze in mixed doubles at the Jakarta Asian Games. Anthony Amalraj, Harmeet Desai, Sathiyan Gnanasekaran, Manav Thakkar and Sharath Kamal also bagged another bronze in the men’s team event. India will be hoping to better their medal count from Jakarta at the 2023 Asian Games.
