Shivraj Chouhan Inaugurates Adi Shankaracharya Statue. All You Need To Know About It

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Thursday unveiled a 108-feet statue of Adi Shankaracharya, 8th-century Vedic scholar and teacher, in Omkareshwar.

Here are 5 points on Adi Shankaracharya’s statue:

  1. It is situated on Mandhata mountain in Omkareshwar, the city on the banks of Narmada River. It is made with amalgamation of multiple metals.

  2. The statue stands on a 54-foot-high pedestal. It has been named “Ekatmata Ki Pratima” (statue of oneness).

  3. Omkareshwar is famous for being home to one of the 12 Jyotirlingas, the sacred shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva.

  4. The BJP government in Madhya Pradesh had earlier given its approval for Rs 2,141.85-crore project for the statue of Adi Shankaracharya along with a museum in Omkareshwar.

  5. Born in Kerala, Adi Shankaracharya is believed to have reached Omkareshwar after becoming a ‘sanyasi’ (monk) at a very young age, where he met his guru Govind Bhagwadpad, stayed in the religious city for four years, and attained education.
