According to police, the woman is an architect interning with a real estate firm and was identified as Nupur Patel from Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh. In the video, she is heard shouting and abusing authorities, saying “how dare you stop me, my father owns this road”. Police said they received a call from the security staff about a woman riding a Royal Enfield on the sea link and heading towards south Mumbai.
A report published in Hindustan Times said Worli traffic police constable Rajendra Hipparkar noticed that Patel was speeding and went ahead of the landing point of the sea link and stopped her. “When the police personnel stopped her, she started arguing with them, saying that her father owned the road, and she is a taxpayer and, therefore, nobody could stop her. Despite several requests, she was not ready to take her two-wheeler on one side of the road and was arguing with the traffic police. She then threw a suspicious object, which looked like a pistol, towards the police personnel,” a police officer was quoted as saying.
Police said Patel was visiting her brother in Pune and wanted to see the Bandra-Worli Sea Link. Hence, she took her brother’s bike for a trip to Mumbai, they added.
In the video, Patel can be heard threatening cops and refusing to get down from her bike despite multiple requests. She continues with her rude behaviour and starts abusing the cops, saying “she is a taxpayer” and she can do what she pleases on this road. She is also heard issuing threats that she will just speed off and hit the cops with her bike if they do not leave her alone.
Patel was booked under sections 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way), 336 (act endangering life or personal safety of others), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988. She was also handed a notice under Section 41A of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) for an appearance before the investigating officer and was allowed to go.
