NEET-UG counselling is currently going on for MBBS, BDS and BAC nursing admissions. Under this, the registration process for the stray vacancy round has ended. In this round, those candidates who were not able to get seats in the first three rounds were given a chance to register. Now, the seat allotment result for the stray round has been released on September 26.
The Medical Counseling Committee has also shared the list of vacant seats for the stray vacancy round. Currently, 2,454 seats are still vacant in medical colleges. These include 1,641 seats for MBBS, 687 seats for BDS and 126 seats for B.Sc. Nursing.
According to reports, out of 1,641 vacant seats in the MBBS, 872 seats are in the All India Quota. These include institutions like AIIMS, JIPMER and AMU. Apart from this, seats are also vacant in many medical colleges run by the state of Tamil Nadu. There are many colleges whose annual fees are less than Rs 20,000. According to the information, 154 seats are vacant in Maharashtra, 118 in Karnataka, 121 in Rajasthan, 118 in Karnataka and 162 in Puducherry.
According to reports, if the students don’t apply for these seats or don’t join the college where they are allotted seats, then these seats will remain vacant.
In contrast, all state quota seats in government colleges were filled by the State Selection Committee in three rounds of online counselling. Reports suggest that Tamil Nadu will soon open portals for conducting stray rounds on Saturday to fill up seats in government quotas, management quotas and NRI lapsed seats in self-financing colleges.
Parents and students say states must opt for hybrid counselling sessions to avoid blocking seats in central and state counselling.
On the other hand, the private medical colleges have urged the Center to reduce the cutoff per cent or return seats for on-campus spot admissions; deemed universities, which account for two-fifths of the vacancies, are offering scholarships. Reports added that Shri Sathya Sai Medical College and Research Institute, for 205 of the 250 vacant seats, has announced a scholarship of Rs 2 lakh for candidates below 200 NEET marks and up to Rs 4 lakh for students above 300 marks.
