England cricket team reaches Guwahati for World Cup 2023 in ‘economy class’ and Desis can’t stop laughing at it.
The England cricket team’s journey to Guwahati, India, for the ODI World Cup warm-up turned into a challenging ordeal in the skies. England’s wicket-keeper batter, Jonny Bairstow, expressed his dissatisfaction with the team’s travel arrangements on Instagram, revealing that their journey had lasted for more than 38 hours. In his post, the 34-year-old shared a snapshot of England players seated in the economy class of an IndiGo flight, depicting the crowded aisles and the players’ discomfort. Bairstow humourously captioned the post as “utter chaos” and added, “last leg incoming… been some trip,” along with “38 hours and counting…” and a laughing emoji, triggering a frenzy on the internet.
The online community couldn’t resist poking fun at the management’s decision to have the defending World Cup champions travel in economy class. Some amusing reactions flooded social media, such as one user jokingly saying, “England Can’t afford business class wow, bhai indigo seriously.” Another user quipped, “Defending champions ki kya haalat hogayi hai,” while a third user humourously remarked, “Funny thing: I’m traveling in Indigo as we speak and having the same experience as the English players.”
In the midst of this frenzy, the England squad, who were defending champions and strong contenders for the 2023 ODI World Cup, embarked on their journey to India with great excitement. However, their journey unfolded quite differently from their expectations. Unexpected delays, layovers, and logistical challenges stretched their travel time beyond imagination. As Bairstow pointed out, this incident provided a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the trials and tribulations that international teams face during extensive travels for major tournaments.
Nevertheless, cricket commentator Vikrant Gupta stepped in to clarify the situation, stating, “Misinformation. They travelled business London-Dubai-Mumbai. And domestic no flight will have 40 business class seats. That’s how it always is: even the Indians travelled economy within Australia last year in World T20. Now, he could be talking about fans taking selfies. Which I think is what every superstar lives for.”
Cricket is undoubtedly more than just a game; it’s a whirlwind journey where even champions find themselves in “economy class” moments, but the spirit of the sport always soars in first-class style!
