Ravichandran Ashwin’s addition to India’s World Cup squad has sent the fans into a frenzy. The veteran off-spinner is currently in Guwahati as India is set to compete against England in their first warm-up game. A social media user recently shared a picture of Ashwin playing a reverse sweep in the nets. The photo was uploaded on X, formerly known as Twitter. The post read, “Ravi Ashwin practising reverse sweep in the nets”.

Ashwin, who is one of India’s greatest spinners ever, is known to be quite handy with the bat. India may need his skills with the bat at the No. 8 spot when chasing big totals.

A fan suggested that Ashwin was only practising the reverse sweep so that he could understand how to counter the opposition batters.

He wrote, “Aswin Anna doing hands-on practice to understand how to counter reverse sweeps on his bowling.”

Another person suggested that Ashwin was trying to add to his skillset that would give him an edge over his compatriots. “He is trying to gain some extra. Something X factor,” he wrote.

Another fan stated that Ravichandran Ashwin was in full mood to win the World Cup on home soil. “Anna in full mood to lift the World Cup,” read the response.

One of the comments suggested that Ashwin’s improvement in batting could help India in dire situations. He posted, “Good! It will benefit India in crucial times! When we need!”

A fan drew a hilarious comparison between Ashwin and Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell. He wrote “Ravi Ashwin batter>>>>>Glenn Maxwell”.

Ravichandran Ashwin’s return to the World Cup squad was possible because of Axar Patel’s injury. Axar was unable to recover from his quadriceps strains which he suffered in an Asia Cup Super 4 match against Bangladesh. The injury has now cost him a spot in the prestigious tournament.

Ashwin initially replaced Axar in India’s bilateral series at home against Australia. He ended up playing two of the three ODIs against the Aussies, displaying his wide array of skills. In the second ODI, Ashwin scalped three wickets while giving away only 41 runs. He was a crucial element in India’s 2-1 win in the ODI series.
