The Indian contingent continues to shine in Asian Games 2023, extending their medal tally to 69 on Tuesday. The biggest highlights were the twin golds – in women’s javelin throw and women’s 5000m event – along with 2 silver medals and 5 bronze.

Historic Bronze in Canoeing
Arjun Singh and Sunil Singh Salam clinched a historic bronze medal in the men’s canoe double 1000m event at the Asian Games here on Tuesday. The Indian duo finished with a timing of 3:53.329 seconds to bag third place and the country’s only second medal in the event in the Asian Games.
In the final held at the picturesque Fuyang riverfront, Arjun Singh, 16, and Sunil Singh, 24, finished in third place in 3:53.329 to trail in behind gold medallist Uzbekistan (3:43.796) and silver medallist Kazakstan (3:49.991).
This is India’s second medal in canoeing in the Asian Games after Johnny Rommel and Siji Kumar Sadanandan bagged a bronze in the Men’s Canoe Double 1000m in the Hiroshima Games in 1994.
India Through to Men’s Cricket Semis
Riding on Yashasvi Jaiswal’s 49-ball century followed by a scintillating bowling display from Avesh Khan and Ravi Bishnoi, India beat Nepal by 23 runs to enter the semifinal, at the 19th Asian Games, here on Tuesday.
Yashasvi smashed 100 off 49 balls, his maiden century in T20Is, and became the youngest Indian to score a T20I ton in 21 years and 279 days, surpassing the previous record held by Shubman Gill, who had scored a century against New Zealand at the age of 23 years and 146 days.
Archers Assure 3 Medals
Reigning world champion Ojas Deotale blazed his way to the final with a perfect score of 150, while veteran Abhishek Verma also shone brightly to set up an all-Indian gold medal clash and assure the county of a top-two finish in the men’s individual compound archery at the Asian Games, here on Tuesday.
Seasoned Jyothi Surekha Vennam also advanced into the women’s individual final at the expense of world champion Aditi Swami, as the compound archers led India’s charge at the continental showpiece.
India have thus confirmed three medals in archery, matching their best-ever feat of 2014 Asian Games in Incheon where they have won one gold, one silver and one bronze.
Lovlina in Final, Preeti Bags Bronze
Olympic bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain made it to the final of the women’s 75kg boxing event at the 19th Asian Games with a 5:0 unanimous win over Maneekon Baison of Thailand, here on Tuesday.
Moreover, Lovlina secured a 2024 Paris Olympic quota by virtue of making it to the final of her weight category.
Preeti, who secured a 2024 Olympic quota by reaching the last four in the 54kg weight category, clinched a bronze medal after losing to China’s Yuan Chang in the semifinal
India Thrash Hong Kong 13-0 in Women’s Hockey
Indian Women’s Hockey Team on Tuesday sailed into the semifinals of the 19th Asian Games, with a resounding 13-0 win over Hong Kong China in their last Pool A match, here on Tuesday.
Vandana Katariya (2’, 16’, 48’), Deepika (4’, 54’, 58’) Monika (7’), Deep Grace Ekka (11’, 42), Sangita Kumari (27’, 55’), Vaishnavi Vithal Phalke (34’), and Navneet Kaur (58’) were the goal scorers for India.
Gold Assured in Men’s compound archery event
Following the painful exits of Atanu Das and Dhiraj Bommadevara, Deotale, Verma and seasoned Jyothi Surekha Vennam led the charge in the compound section to assure India of three medals.
Aditi Swami, who is the reigning senior world champion, will fight for a bronze after losing to her ‘role model’ Jyothi in the women’s compound individual semifinal.
Deotale blazed his way to the men’s compound individual final with a perfect score of 150 in his four-point win over South Korean seventh-seed Yang Jaewon. Verma evicted Korean top-seed Joo Jaehoon with a clinical 147-145 victory to set up an all-Indian gold medal clash.
Indian Men Rout Bangladesh, Women Outwit South Korea in Kabaddi
Indian men’s and women’s kabaddi teams notched up comprehensive victories in their group fixtures at the Asian Games here on Tuesday. The Indian men’s team began their campaign with an emphatic 55-18 win over Bangladesh in a group A match.
Later in the day, the women’s side recorded a 56-23 win over South Korea in their second group A game. India, last edition’s silver medallist, were held to a surprise 34-34 draw by Chinese Taipei in their opening match on Monday.
Medal Assured in Squad Mixed Doubles
Dipika Pallikal and Harindar Pal Singh Sidhu came from behind to enter the squash mixed doubles semi-finals to assure India of a medal. Dipika and Harinder defeated Jemyca Aribado and Andrew Garica of Philippines 7-11, 11-5, 11-4 in the quarterfinals match.
But it was curtains for India’s Tanvi Khanna as she lost to Satomi Watanabe in the women’s singles quarterfinals 5-11, 6-11, 12-14.
Sindhu, Prannoy, Srikanth Enter Pre-quarterfinals
Indian shuttlers HS Prannoy, PV Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth progressed to the singles pre-quarterfinals with straight-game wins over their respective opponents.
Prannoy was back on the court after a back injury, dishing out a clinical performance to expectedly outwit Mongolia’s Batdavaa Munkhbat 21-9 21-12 in 25 minutes. He will face Kazakhstan’s Dmitriy Panarin next.
Srikanth also notched up a 21-16 21-11 win over Korea’s Lee Yun Gyu to set up a clash with Japan’s second seed Kodai Naruka.
Sindhu prevailed 21-10 21-15 over world no. 21 We Chi Hsu of Chinese Taipei. She will play Indonesia’s Putri Kusuma Wardani in the next round.
Vithya Ramraj Wins Bronze in Women’s 400m Hurdles
India’s Vithya Ramraj bagged a bronze medal in women’s 400m hurdles. She came up with a timing of 55.68s to finish third, while Bahrain’s Oluwakemi Mujidat Adekoya produced a game record of 54.45s and Jaidie Mo of China came up with a season-best of 55.01 to claim the gold and silver respectively.
The Indian had equalled PT Usha’s 400m hurdle national record, which was set in 1984, with a personal best effort of 55.52s to top her heat and directly qualify for the final on Monday.
Annu Rani Claims Javelin Gold
Annu Rani clinched the gold medal for India in women’s Javelin Throw with a 62.92m on her fourth attempt to outclass her opponents.
