Skipper Rohit Sharma asserted that the team management has not taken a final decision on Shubman Gill and they are giving him chance to recover.

Team Indian captain Rohit Sharma has provided a big update on Shubman Gill’s health and stated that he is not feeling well at the moment, however, the skipper is also not ruling him out yet. Shubman has been a key player in India’s World Cup squad and enjoying terrific form this year with the bat. The talented batter is under the weather and doubtful to take part in India’s opening World Cup match against Australia in Chennai on Sunday.

Skipper Rohit asserted that the team management has not taken a final decision on Gill and they are giving him a chance to recover.

“Gill is not feeling well, giving him every chance to see how he feels. Not ruled out yet,” Rohit Sharma said in the press conference on the eve of Australia clash.

Shubman is the most in-form player in ODIs this year and amassed the most runs – 1230 in 20 matches thus far which also included a double century.

He also scored a century against Australia in the second ODI of the three-match series prior to the World Cup.

Meanwhile, Rohit said he just wants Shubman to get well first as a human being first not as a captain.

“Shubman Gill is sick, I feel for him. I want him to be well. As a human being first, not as captain. He is a young boy, has fit body and he will recover,” the Indian skipper added.

Earlier, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) spokesperson told News18 CricketNext that the medical team is closely monitoring the star opener’s progress.

“He’s under the weather, the medical team is closely monitoring him. We are hoping he gets better soon,” says the BCCI spokesperson.

“We will have to wait on more updates from the medical team,” adds the spokesperson.

Talking about the mood in the camp, Rohit said that they are confident with the skills the players possess in the Indian team.

“Mood in the camp is very good. As it is going to be before start of every tournament. Quite confident skill wise. Looking forward to the game,” he added.
