Do you remember the 104-year-old woman from the US who created the world record of being the oldest human to do skydiving? The centenarian, who was a resident of Chicago, passed away.
On October 1, Dorothy Hoffner jumped from a height of 13,500 feet in northern Illinois to become the oldest person to ever skydive. However, Hoffner’s record is yet to be certified by the Guinness Book of World Records.
Authorities at the Brookdale Senior Living Centre have verified that Hoffner passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday night, NBC Chicago reported.
“Skydiving is a wonderful experience, and it’s nothing to be afraid of,” Hoffner told NBC Chicago after her jump. “Just do it.”
On her landing, a chorus of applause and cheers erupted from the onlookers.
Officials from Skydive Chicago offered their condolences and expressed that they were proud to be a part of Dorothy’s big day.
“We are deeply saddened by Dorothy’s passing and feel honored to have been part of making her world record skydive a reality. Skydiving is an activity that many of us safely tuck away in our bucket lists. But Dorothy reminds us that it’s never too late to take the thrill of a lifetime,” a spokesperson for the company said.
Earlier, Skydive Chicago shared in the caption along with a video, “It was amazing helping our 104-year-old friend Dorothy Hoffner make an attempt to become the OLDEST PERSON in the world to EVER skydive! She reminded all of us this past Sunday that age is just a number and the beauty of life is just a jump away.”.
Dorothy Hoffner attempted her first skydive at the age of 100. During her initial skydiving experience, she needed a little push from others to exit the aircraft, but for this attempt, she approached it with confidence.
Before Hoffner, a 103-year-old woman named Linnea Ingegard Larsson from Sweden held the Guinness World Record for the oldest skydiver.
