A junior employee shouts at a senior over a Zoom meeting as the latter asks him to complete his report to work over the weekend.
Many of us have experienced those moments of frustration when managing our work-life balance becomes an uphill battle. This struggle is something we can all relate to, but it becomes all the more challenging when this frustration boils over into a virtual meeting. This universal struggle is a narrative we all understand, yet it just reaches a whole new and dramatic level when an employee could not contain this simmering frustration and bursts out his anger on a senior.
In a viral video, a group of individuals congregates on a Zoom call, reportedly to address matters related to their work. Among them, Dilip Kumar, a senior employee can be seen talking during the meeting. He speaks with a hint of authority, “Agli report late nahi aani chahiye, warna tumko Saturday-Sunday ruk ke kaam karna padega” which can be roughly translated to “Your upcoming report must be delivered on time; otherwise, you’ll need to put in extra hours on Saturday and Sunday to complete the pending tasks.”
Caught off guard, the junior employee, Nikhil, promptly interjects. He says, “Ek second, ek second, Saturday-Sunday ki baat kahan se aa gayi,” which means, “Hold on a second, what do you mean by having to work on Saturday and Sunday?” His tone indicates a lingering sense of frustration as he accuses the senior, claiming that he is frequently burdened with weekend work, a situation he deems patently unfair.
However, the senior employee goes on to ask, “Report khatam honi padegi, kaun karega ye report,” Meaning “Who else is going to complete the pending report?”
To this, In a measured and defiant tone, Nikhil, the junior employee, firmly asserts, “aapko Monday ko mil jaegi report. Aapko samajh nahi aa rha?” It means “I’ve already informed you that the complete report will be ready by Monday. Why can’t you understand that?”
The conversation now takes a heated turn as the senior colleague insists that, as the junior’s superior, he expects his junior to talk to him respectfully and all his orders must be followed. Nikhil, however, is not to be silenced. He counters, “You should also speak to me respectfully, and if you enjoy ‘giving orders’ so much, you might as well do it through Swiggy.”
Their verbal altercation escalates, with both parties locked in a dispute over maintaining decorum and respectful communication within the professional realm. Nonetheless, the frustrated junior employee refuses to back down. He says that he performs his duties diligently and honestly, for which, he earns a modest income for his livelihood. He further says, “You’re not going to make me wealthy overnight.”
