Caught On Camera: Shop Workers Beat Up Patient And Her Relatives ‘Asking For Water’ – News18

A dengue patient and her family members were mercilessly beaten up by shop employees in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh on Monday, October 16. The incident occurred at the Novelty Crossing under the jurisdiction of the Kotwali Police Station. It all unfolded when the woman in question visited the Dinanath Lassi Wale shop reportedly to ask for water. The employees at the shop allegedly began beating the woman and her relatives and the altercation was captured on a CCTV camera right across the crossing. Footage of the incident has garnered significant buzz on X, causing social media users to demand strict action to be taken against the suspects.

According to a report by Free Press Journal, the victim in the clip is identified as Manju Gupta. It is suggested she had been suffering from dengue for 20 days. On the day of the altercation, Manju was commuting with her brothers to get medicine from a nearby hospital. She approached the shop only asking for water to consume her medicines. However, things quickly escalated when the employees began mistreating her. They incited the brawl catching attention from onlookers who reportedly began recording the fight on their mobile devices. It is suggested the employees also resorted to snatching the phones of bystanders in the heated moment.

The short surveillance video shows chaos erupting on the busy street as blurry silhouettes of people land blows at each other. After the fighting subsides, a large group of people assemble around the area supposedly to check on the victims. Take a look at the video here:

The Bareilly Police took cognizance of the matter and issued an official statement on X. A case has been registered against the suspects and the authorities have already arrested three accused involved in the altercation. “Superintendent of Police, City of Bareilly took immediate action after receiving the information of assault at Novelty intersection under Kotwali police station area. Registered a case on the basis of the complaint received and arrested 3 accused involved in the incident and took further action,” stated Bareilly Police on social media.

A video of the superintendent talking about the assault was also shared online, wherein an officer confirmed they’ve investigated the surveillance footage of the incident. The cop confirms they’ve identified and booked three suspects who are about to be sent to jail.
