The pair of Kader Khan and Govinda is still counted among the best pair. Both of them worked together in about 41 films.
The entire family came to India to avoid any untoward incident with Kader.
Kader Khan was born on 22 October 1937 in Kabul, Afghanistan. His father, Abdul Rahman, was from Afghanistan and his mother, Iqbal Begum, was from British India.
Before Kader Khan was born, he had three elder brothers, but all of them died before the age of eight. Mother was afraid that she too might die. The mother felt that the air and water of Kabul were not good for her children.
Due to this fear, he asked Kader Khan’s father to settle in some other country. The financial condition of the family was not good. At one time it was very difficult to arrange food. On the other hand, Abdul Rehman was not at all ready for this. He knew that somehow survival was being done here. Everything will have to start again somewhere else.
Despite this, mother Iqbal Begum remained adamant on her insistence and the entire family came to India from Afghanistan. After coming to India, the whole family settled in Kamathipura colony of Mumbai.
Parents divorced at a young age, family members forced mother to remarry
This was the time when new developments were taking place in Mumbai. The condition of the colony was very bad. There was bloodshed and fighting every day.
Kader Khan’s father did not like this environment of the colony at all. There used to be fights between his parents regarding this issue every day. Things got worse and they got divorced. At that time Kader Khan was only 1 year old.
Here Kader Khan’s maternal family came from Balochistan. Seeing the poor condition of the colony, he talked about getting Kader’s mother remarried. At that time, it was considered wrong for a woman to live alone in the society. Even after his second marriage, his family conditions did not improve.
Kader Khan made his acting debut in the year 1973 with the film Daag. This film featured actors like Rajesh Khanna, Sharmila Tagore and Rakhi.
Survived by begging, was tortured by stepfather
Even after the divorce, Kader remained connected to his father. On the other hand, his stepfather’s behavior towards Kader was not good. The conditions at home were also worse than bad. The stepfather did not do any work. He knew that Kader Khan shares a good bond with his first father. Taking advantage of this, the stepfather used to send him 10 kilometers to his first father to ask for Rs 2. Along with this, he also used to go to the mosque and beg, but even with this, the family could not survive. The situation was such that the whole family ate 3 days a week and remained hungry for 3 days.
My childhood was nurtured by my mother
Since childhood, mother’s dream was that Kader Khan should become a big man after getting good education, but the poverty of the house troubled him a lot. His friends also used to ask him – what is there in this education? Come and work with us.
Fed up with poverty, Kader too succumbed to the words of his friends and threw away all his books. When his mother came to know about this, she became very angry with Kadar and said – The poverty of the house will not be less than your earnings. You just focus on your studies and when you become a big man through this study, poverty will automatically end.
Mother died in front of my eyes
Mother’s words were taken to heart and Kader brought back his thrown books. He also promised his mother that he would complete his studies. Kader Khan’s mother had the biggest role in shaping his life. It was his mother who used to give correct advice in his every step, but his mother did not stay with him for long. He had a serious illness, but he never let Kader know about this illness.
One day, as soon as Kader Khan came home, he saw that his mother was vomiting blood. Seeing this he was shocked. He asked mother what was this and why didn’t you tell me about this. The mother replied that it was nothing, but her vomiting was not stopping.
The film ‘Ho Gaya Dimaag Ka Dahi’, released in 2015, was the last film of Kader Khan’s career in which he worked.
Seeing this he hurriedly went to the doctor. After going to the hospital, he told the doctor about his mother’s condition and asked him to accompany him. The doctor refused to accompany him. When the doctor did not agree even after a lot of persuasion, Kader picked him up in a filmy style and brought him home. As soon as he reached home, he saw that his mother had stopped breathing. Frightened, he asked the doctor to check up on his mother. The doctor checked the mother and said that she is no more in this world.
Kader Khan was completely broken by this. The result of being away from his mother’s shadow at a young age is that his lack of mother is clearly visible in his dialogues written in films.
Used to copy film dialogues by going to graveyard
Kader Khan had the habit of copying since childhood. He used to go to the graveyard and sit between two graves, talking to himself and reciting film dialogues. A person stood behind the wall and watched them. That person was Ashraf Khan.
At that time, Ashraf was looking for an 8-year-old boy for one of his stage dramas. He gave Kader a job in the drama. And from here the fate of Kader Khan changed.
was very smart in studies also
Even after his mother left, Kader continued his studies along with drama to fulfill the promise he had made to her. Kader was very bright in studies. He graduated from Ismail Yusuf College, Mumbai. After this he did post graduation in civil engineering.
Between 1970 and 75, Kader Khan was a professor of civil engineering and along with this he also worked in dramas.
Two conditions were placed before Dilip Sahab for showing the drama.
Along with teaching, Kader Khan was also associated with theatre. In those days, one of his dramas, Tash Ka Patte, became very famous. People used to come from far and wide to watch his drama. Meanwhile, one day Kader was teaching in the college, when suddenly he got a call from Dilip Kumar. Kader picked up the call and a voice came from there, ‘I am Dilip Kumar and I also want to watch your drama Tash Ka Patti.’
Here Kadar is very quiet. As soon as he heard the name of Dilip Kumar, his hands and feet became cold. After some time Kader replied to Dilip Sahab. He said that of course you can come and watch the drama, but I have some conditions for it. He said that you have to come at the right time to watch the drama, because after the gate is closed, it is not opened again and secondly, you have to sit and watch the entire drama.
Dilip Sahab accepted both these conditions of Kader Khan and the next day he reached half an hour before time to watch the drama. Also he saw the whole drama.
Dilip Sahab gave a break in films
Dilip Sahab liked this drama of Kader Khan very much and as soon as the show ended, he announced on the stage that he would give work to Kader Khan in films. After this Dilip Kumar signed Kader Khan in two films.
Kader Khan shared the screen with Dilip Kumar in the film Kanoon Apna Apna. This picture is from a scene of the same film.
When my son got hurt, I stopped playing the role of a villain.
There is no fact available related to Kader Khan’s marriage. It is only mentioned that he had three sons, Sarfaraz Khan, Shahnawaz Khan and Quddus. Kader told in an interview that it was because of his elder son Sarfaraz that he had stopped playing the role of villain.
Actually, Sarfaraz’s friends often teased him by saying that his father is a villain in films, but later he often gets beaten there. Sarfaraz did not like this thing about his friends at all, he used to fight with his friends. Once the matter escalated to such an extent that Sarfaraz got injured on his head.
When Kader Khan came to know about this, he felt very bad. Seeing his son’s condition, he decided that he would no longer play the role of a villain. After this Kader Khan started appearing in comedy roles.
Apart from acting, he also did script writing work.
Kader Khan’s career as a scriptwriter began when Narinder Bedi saw a theater play written by him and asked him to write the script of Jawaani Deewani with Inder Raj Anand. For this Kader Khan got Rs 1500. In the 1970s and 80s he wrote stories for many films.
Did not call Amitabh Bachchan ‘Sir ji’

Kader Khan said which sir? The director pointed towards Amitabh Bachchan and said that this is sir ji. Kader Khan was surprised but he did not say anything there.
Actually, at that time everyone in the film industry had started calling Amitabh Bachchan as Sir Ji, but Kader Khan said, ‘How can I call him Sir Ji? He is like a friend and younger brother to me.
Kader Khan worked in 21 films with Amitabh Bachchan.
Incurable disease became the cause of death
