Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on Monday criticised the circulation of his cropped images with Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra and called it an act of “cheap, low-level politics.”
Shashi Tharoor while responding to media in Kottayam about the online trolls related to his pictures with MP Mahua Moitra said, “This is seriously low-level politics” adding that the picture, which is now going viral, was cropped.
Clarifying his stance on the viral picture, the Thiruvananthapuram said that the picture was taken at Moitra’s birthday party, which was attended by around 15 other people, including his sister.
“This is cheap politics. It was that child’s birthday party. I shouldn’t say child but for me, she is one. She is younger than me by 10-20 years. There were about 15 other people at that party, even my sister was there with me,” said Tharoor.
“But the trollers cropped up the photos and chose to circulate only a part of it that made it seem like a secret picture,” he added.
“They are spreading it as a private meeting, but then who clicked the picture,” Tharoor asked.
The leader, who is also a member of the Congress Working Committee further added that he doesn’t give importance to such cheap acts and trolls and prefers being busy working for the welfare of the people.
“These are all trolls they will do everything possible to bring people down. I have not given it the importance you guys have given it,” said Tharoor.
Responding to the viral image, Moitra earlier said that she was “most amused” to see some personal photos of her being circulated on social media and blamed “the BJP’s troll sena” for the same.
“I like green dress better on me than white blouse. And why bother cropping — show the rest of the folks at dinner as well. Bengal’s women live a life. Not a lie,” Moitra said in a post on microblogging platform X.
