Today’s unheard story is of J.C., who started Malayalam cinema. Daniel Ki, who risked everything to fulfill his only dream of making cinema. This dream came true after years of hard work, but due to one decision this dream took a frightening form. That decision was to reject casteism and make a Dalit girl the heroine in the film. Society punished him for this decision. The only theater in the village was burnt. If we escaped from this, we had to struggle to remain in anonymity.
Years later he was called the father of Malayalam cinema, but by then it was too late. Today Kerala’s biggest award is J.C. Daniel’s name is, although he never got the respect he deserved during his lifetime.
