The very first car in the James Bond series, the Aston Martin DB5 bore the legendary number ‘007’.
When talking about spy movies, it is nearly impossible to keep James Bond from coming to mind. For over 60 years and with 25 movies in cue, James Bond continues to remain the go-to name for spy thriller films. Besides being full of thrilling action, exciting missions, innovative gadgets, and engaging plots, the series of James Bond movies are also known for their exotic and flashy cars that add to the thrilling car chases. We are talking about the legendary number ‘007’ that James Bond’s iconic Aston Martin bore. This number later also doubled up as a secret agent’s code name as we know to date. Known as Aston Martin DB5, the famous James Bond car gained popularity as one of the most famous cars in the world. It not only played a major role in promotional activities but also in films like Goldfinger and Thunderball.

Over time, the Aston Martin DB5 has undergone meticulous restoration, while also retaining all 13 original special effects gadgets that were featured in the movies. It was the mind of John Steers behind these modifications.
Speaking about its features, it included a hidden machine gun, a sophisticated tracking device, a bulletproof shield, a rotating license plate, a nail sprayer, and even a removable roof panel.
In the meantime, throughout the James Bond franchise, the Aston Martin has been featured in a plethora of other different models, highlighting the fact that 007 prefers to ride in style. While he was seen behind the wheels of a BMW, a Rolls-Royce, a Bentley, and even a Ford, the series somehow always managed to reunite Bond with his beloved Aston Martin.
James Bond’s journey with Aston Martin
While the journey began with the 1963 Aston Martin DB5, the next one was the 1968 Aston Martin DBS, followed by the 1985 Aston Martin V8 Vantage Volante, the 2002 Aston Martin V12 Vanquish, the 2006 Aston Martin DBS V12, the 2014 Aston Martin DB10, the 2018 Aston Martin DBS Superleggera, and finally the 2023 Aston Martin Valhalla.
While all of these seemed magnificent in their own way, the DB5 is a clear winner.
