A man shares his horrible experience at an expensive San Diego Airbnb. He claims it has a bed in the garage, the floor was dirty and the toilet was dismounted from the wall.

Deciding on an ideal place to stay is a very important part of any vacation. When people book their abode online, they expect their vacation rental to match the pictures they see on the website. There’s no doubt that they want the place to be squeaky clean, comfortable, and have all basic amenities. While most are fortunate enough to find a place meeting their expectations, this man from the USA couldn’t say the same. In a recent social media post, Nick Doty shared his unfortunate experience with what he described as a very expensive and subpar Airbnb.

Doty reportedly recounted his stay at what he called an incredibly disappointing “Airbnb from hell.”

Initially, it seemed like a luxurious San Diego property with five bedrooms and five bathrooms, valued at an astonishing $4.9 million (approx. Rs 40 crores) according to its Zillow listing. Nick Doty and his friends had booked this place at a hefty price of $1,250 (approx Rs1 lakh) per night to attend a friend’s wedding. Remarkably, the property had a decent average rating of 4.78 out of 5 on Airbnb, though it mysteriously vanished from the platform, as reported by Insider.

However, the reality was a stark contrast to what the listing had promised. Nick Doty’s narrative revealed the first major disappointment – the mansion had been divided, with one group of guests placed in one half and Doty’s group in the other.

The real shocker reportedly came when they realised that the house did not actually contain five bedrooms. The ‘first bedroom’ was actually located in the garage, a space with a strong gasoline odor and inadequate ventilation and smoke detectors. To add to the bizarre situation, there was a crib in the garage, giving the impression that guests were encouraged to enjoy the smell of car exhaust while they slept. Furthermore, the garage room lacked electrical outlets, leading one of Doty’s friends to sleep on the couch instead.

The problematic aspects of the house did not end there. Doty and his friends shared their ‘favorite’ discoveries, which included a toilet not properly attached to a wall, shower knobs that came off when turned, and an air conditioning unit that was locked in a box until guests paid extra for using it, as per New York Post.

The kitchen was no better, with an oven that took an unusually long time to heat up, and a shower that required 12.5 minutes to produce hot water. Even the black slate floors left marks on guests’ feet as if they had been walking through a coal mine.

Doty aptly called the experience with sardonic humor, stating, “All this could be yours for $5 million and a lifetime supply of antidepressants,” reports the New York Post.

However, the host of this Airbnb, Scott, reportedly denied all of Doty’s allegations, stating that there was no ‘garage be’ and that the oven had been improperly set by the guests. He also defended the cleanliness of the black slate floors, suggesting that they naturally turned guests’ feet black, reports the New York Post.
