Bengaluru man was denied a refund of Rs 89,000 after one of his connecting flights to Mumbai was cancelled.

Bengaluru techie Naveenraj Rajan was denied a refund of Rs 89,000 after one of his connecting flights to Mumbai was cancelled because of a plane crash and a runway closure at the airport. Rajan was all set to fly to Canada. He arrived at the Kempegowda International Airport on September 14 to take a Vistara flight to Mumbai. He then took a connecting Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) flight from Mumbai to Zurich. However, he was then informed at the airport that his flight was delayed and later cancelled.

He was further informed that the next flight to Mumbai was at 1 am. He had come to Delhi to visit his family in India.

According to reports, Rajan said, “They told me that a private jet had crashed at Mumbai airport and the runway was closed.” He further added, “The staff informed me that the possibility of a Vistara flight taking off from Bengaluru to Mumbai was at 1 am on September 15 and I expressed concern as my SWISS airline’s connecting flight from Mumbai to Zurich was scheduled for 12:55 am.”

Rajan was further unable to get another Vistara flight to Mumbai. The staff also issued him a certificate that read “kindly process full refund due to flight delay runway restrictions (sic)”.

Rajan explained, “Realising there was no way I could make it to Mumbai to catch my connecting flight, I trusted Vistara staff’s words as they were the codesharing partners of SWISS and went home hoping my ticket refund of Rs 89,000 will come.”

Rajan tried to reach out to GoIbibo for a refund. However, he was told that he had ‘failed to report to his destination’ and as a result, was not eligible for the refund amount.
