While speaking in an interview, the star batter shared a clip in which he was sitting in an auto rickshaw alongside his teammate Liam Livingstone. In the video, the cricketing duo made a close call with a white SUV in Delhi. “It’s the car that comes across from the other way in a minute. There. He’s nearly taken us out”, Stokes can be heard saying in the clip. The video has now gone viral sparking reactions from several cricket fans across the internet.

While some people believed that it was indeed a close escape, others felt that rash driving was kind of a typical thing in India. It sparked some hilarious reactions with one of the fans saying, “India is not for beginners.”

A second user seemed to agree as he couldn’t find any abnormal activity in the video. He wrote, “As an Indian, I find this extremely normal.”

Another reply read, “Is it just me who saw nothing wrong here?”

“In that case, I’m nearly taken out every time I step out of the house,” joked a fourth.

One reply got into the details explaining the situation as the person wrote, “This is normal in India. The rule about roundabouts that you need to let the other vehicle pass which is already on the roundabout, is not known to 99.5 per cent of people in India. I discovered this concept while driving in Europe, It’s cool but won’t work in India.”

While Stokes and Livingstone may have escaped a close call in Delhi, England can’t seem to catch a break from a traffic of losses. The team landed on Indian soil as one of the favourites with high chances of them retaining their crown.

However, six matches into the tournament, England have failed to qualify for the knockout stages of the World Cup. They currently sit in 10th position on the table, having conceded five losses in India. Their only win at the 2023 World Cup came against Bangladesh whom they beat by 137 runs at the HPCA Stadium.

England’s most recent loss came against India on October 29 in Lucknow. Having won the toss, the defending champs decided to field first. They were off to a great start dismissing Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli early in the game. David Willey went on to scalp three wickets, halting the hosts to a 229-run total.

In the second innings, England ended up losing early wickets to Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami, as they sat at 39/4 in the 10th over. Ben Stokes couldn’t make any impact as he was sent packing for a 10-ball duck by Shami. India continued to add pressure, eventually dismissing the entire team at 129 runs.
