She began sharing videos online in 2021.
Her videos immediately struck a chord with viewers and became popular.
The internet and social media have opened up a whole new avenue for gaining fame, recognition and money. Social media influencers and content creators nowadays can make a fortune from creating content online, which can range from educational and entertainment to plain life hacks. Since this does not require one to have any qualifications and can give great monetary returns with high views, many are turning to content creation as a full timer. Some content are unconventional and different, which become their unique selling point. Scottish woman Zia O’Shaughnessy is one of those unconventional content creators who has made a fortune by posting videos of washing her hair.
The 30-year-old has to come online and wash her hair, that’s all. Her views keep piling up. Zia O’Shaughnessy, a part-time call centre employee, began sharing videos on TikTok in 2021 to share her hair care regimen after having “unruly” hair as a child. Her videos immediately struck a chord with viewers and became popular; one of her early videos, titled Zia’s Bowl Method, a method for determining whether someone has curly hair, received 35 million views. Zia, a mother of two children, began to earn enough money from her content — shared for straight two years after she quit her job.
According to the report of The Sun, Zia was once in debt of Rs 8 lakh. But you will be surprised to know that after her videos started paying her so well, that not only did she repay her debts but bought her own house just at the age of 29. The house cost her around Rs 1.8 crore. She once made Rs 4 lakh from just one single video, which took her an hour to make.
Zia’s mother used to chop her hair short when she was a child because it was so unkempt. Zia recalls that it bothered her to be asked if she was a boy or a girl all the time. Then, almost four years ago, Zia began researching her hair type because she wanted to grow out her unmanageable, frizzy locks. After doing some study and experimenting with a different hairstyle, Zia discovered that her curly hair was actually manageable.
