IVF is the fusion of a woman’s egg and a man’s sperm in a laboratory.
The doctor shows how the embryos of 4-6 cells appear on the screen when observed via a microscope in a laboratory dish. He ends by saying that these embryos develop into a baby in the later stages.
In vitro fertilisation (IVF) was pioneered by Sir Robert Edwards and Patrick Steptoe in 1978. Since its inception, this technology has helped millions of people accomplish their dream of becoming parents. A medical practitioner going by the name of Dr Sunil Jindal has shown how a human is born via the process of IVF. He has shown this with the help of a microscope and shared its clip on Instagram.
The clip starts with Dr Sunil saying, “IVF theatre mein hun, aaj aapko ek badi acharj ki cheez dikhaunga (I am in the IVF theatre and I am going to show you a fascinating thing today).” Dr Sunil said that he would show how a baby, who is 4-8 cells old, looks like in their mother’s womb. He then shows the viewers what an embryo looks like under the microscope and how the embryos of 4-6 cells appear on the screen when observed via a microscope in a laboratory dish. He ends the clip by saying that these embryos develop into a baby in the later stages.
Dr Sunil wrote in the caption, “Witness the Human Journey to Life Through IVF: An Embryo Under the Microscope. Take a look at how a human being comes to life! Today, we’re exploring the surprise of the 4-8-year-old baby in the womb with this incredible IVF theatre. See how these embryos look through the microscope – so awe-inspiring!”
Social media users appreciated the clip and sought the answers to several queries from Dr Sunil. One of the users asked whether genetic change can be done at this stage. Another user replied in the affirmative to this question. Another wrote that this may be in the phase of morula (blastomere). A morula (from Latin “morus” meaning mulberry) is an embryo at an initial stage of embryonic development, consisting of approximately 8–32 cells. IVF may very modestly increase the risk of borderline ovarian cancer.
IVF is the fusion of a woman’s egg and a man’s sperm in a laboratory dish. In vitro means outside the body. Fertilisation means the sperm has attached to and entered the egg.
