Rachin Ravindra is at the top of the table for players with the most runs in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, with 565 runs in nine innings at an average of 70.62, striking at 108.44. Kohli is third currently with 543 runs in eight innings at 108.60, striking at 88.29.

While Rachin Ravindra has been a revelation this ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, Virat Kohli is back to sublime best. After yesterday’s game (NZ vs SL) Rachin Ravindra is at the top of the table for players with the most runs in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, with 565 runs in nine innings at an average of 70.62, striking at 108.44. Kohli is third currently with 543 runs in eight innings at 108.60, striking at 88.29.

The great Sachin Tendulkar holds the record for most runs in a single edition of the World Cup with 673 runs from 11 innings during India’s campaign to the 2003 World Cup jointly hosted by South Africa, Kenya and Zimbabwe and the way runs have been scored this World Cup, it is anybody’s guess that Tendulkar’s this record could very well be eclipsed sooner than later.

Follow all the action from the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 including the World Cup schedule, World Cup 2023 results, and ICC Cricket World Cup points table. Players are vying to top the World Cup 2023 Most Runs and World Cup 2023 Most Wickets charts.

It is a testament to Tendulkar’s greatness that he set the batting record way back in 2003, at a time when the two new balls, fielding restrictions and even the reduced size of the field were a mere concept. But, as they say, records are meant to be broken. Who would have thought anybody could surpass The Master’s 49 ODI centuries tally, here is Kohli on the cusp of breaking the ultimate ODI batting record.

Players with Most Runs in Single Edition of a World Cup

Player Matches Innings Runs HS Avg. S/R 100s 50s
SR Tendulkar (IND) 11 11 673 152 61.18 89.25 1 6

RG Sharma (IND) 9 9 648 140 81 98.33 5 1

KS Williamson (NZ) 10 9 578 148 82.57 74.96 2 2
R Ravindra (NZ) 9 9 565 123* 70.62 108.44 3 2
JE Root (ENG) 11 11 556 107 61.77 89.53 2 3

DPMD Jayawardene (SL) 11 11 548 115* 60.88 85.09 1 4

Ravindra 108 runs away, Kohli 130

So, one more match guaranteed and potentially a second – Ravindra is in sight of Tendulkar’s tally of 673. The 23-year-old is only 108 runs away to reach the milestone and looking at how he has been scoring runs at the top of the order, the Kiwi could very well eclipse Tendulkar’s record.

S Samarawickrama (SL) 9 9 373 108 53.28 102.19 1 2
AK Markram (SA) 8 8 371 106 53 118.15 1 3

On the other hand, Kohli now has two guaranteed matches and a third if India makes the final to break the 673 barrier. Currently, Kohli is 130 runs away from the milestone and with India playing the Netherlands next at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, not many would bet against Kohli from reaching the mark and surpassing it.

The icing on the cake would be him hitting his record-setting 50th ODI ton – what a story it would be – the adopted son of Bangalore breaking two of the biggest records in ODI cricket – the Bengaluru fans should consider themselves a blessed lot if that happens.
