Indian students prefer the US owing to its top-tier institutions.

Canada stands out as a top choice for Indian students pursuing higher education, often drawing those originally considering the United States due to America’s quota-based H-1B program.

The rising trend in the number of Indian students pursuing education abroad is quite evident these days. Opting to study in foreign countries offers students the chance to immerse themselves in a different culture, discover new avenues and gain a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Several nations actively embrace international students, providing them with the prospect of obtaining a work visa post-graduation, allowing them to work after completing their studies.

Canada

Canada stands out as a top choice for Indian students pursuing higher education, often drawing those originally considering the United States due to America’s quota-based H-1B program. Canada’s appeal to Indian students is multifaceted, encompassing a significant Indian-origin population and the availability of post-graduate work permits. Through Canada’s Post-Graduate Work Permit Program, students completing a minimum eight-month course can work in the country for up to three years, offering a pathway to potential permanent residency in Canada.

United States

Historically, the United States has been the preferred choice for international students, particularly those from India, owing to its top-tier institutions, adaptable academic atmosphere, cultural diversity, and cutting-edge technology. America offers three visa options for Indian students – J-1, M-1 and F-1. The J-1 visa caters to students seeking to study or intern, including those participating in exchange programs. The M-1 visa is designed for students pursuing vocational education or training. However, the F-1 visa is the most sought-after among the three categories, allowing full-time study in the US and providing the opportunity to work for one year post-graduation, contingent on enrolling in a course lasting at least nine months.

Australia

Australia holds a prominent position as a favoured study destination for international students, particularly among the Indian youth. Its appeal lies in a comprehensive education system, technological advancements, healthcare, infrastructure, and robust government services. Australia extends temporary visas to students, allowing them to pursue studies for up to six years and subsequently engage in part-time or full-time employment.

France

France maintains its popularity among international students, especially those aspiring to study in fields like management, business, fashion, and culinary arts. The influx of Indian students is notably higher in postgraduate courses compared to undergraduate programs. Previously, the French government granted a two-year postgraduate work visa to students pursuing PG courses, a duration that has now been extended to five years. This specific visa is referred to as the talent passport.

UK

The United Kingdom, once known for strict immigration laws, has shifted its focus to enhance work opportunities for international Indian students. The UK now offers a two-year post-study work visa to students upon graduation, with the possibility of extending the duration to three years for those holding PhD or other doctoral degrees.
