Plenty of records were broken during India’s another impressive win in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 as they brushed aside the Netherlands in Bengaluru.

After posting a mammoth 410/4 in 50 overs thanks to centuries from Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul, India bowled out their opponents for 250 to win by 160 runs and finish the league stage with a perfect 9/9.

While the batters took the limelight, the bowlers weren’t far behind as allrounder Ravindra Jadeja created a new record with his two wickets in the contest.

Jadeja has taken his wickets tally in the ongoing world cup to 16 from nine matches. He thus set a new record for the most wickets by an Indian spinner in a single edition of the ODI showpiece, overtaking Anil Kumble (15 wickets in 1996) and Yuvraj Singh (15 wickets in 2011).

Jadeja accounted for Netherlands opener Max O’Dowd and Roelof van der Merwe to finish with figures of 2/49 from nine overs. He’s now seventh on the list of top wicket-takers in the ongoing tournament.

India left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav too picked up a couple of wickets to take his tally to 14 from 9 matches and is currently 13th on the list of most wicket-takers.

Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah took two wickets and is placed fifth in the top wicket-takers list with 17 scalps to his name. Australian Adam Zampa currently is the leading contender for the golden ball award with 22 wickets from 9 matches.

Interestingly, it was a rare off-day for Mohammed Shami who remained wicketless while leaking 41 runs in his six overs. The right-arm pacer has been in sensational form since playing his first match of the competition against New Zealand in Dharamsala, taking 16 wickets from just five matches.

India will take on New Zealand in the first semi-final of the world cup slated to be held at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Wednesday. In the second semi-final, five-time winners Australia will lock horns with South Africa in Kolkata’s Eden Gardens.
