A CCTV footage from a UK restaurant shows a woman pulling a hair and putting it on her plate to get a refund.
There have been several instances when customers demanded refunds from restaurants and eateries upon finding unwanted things like insects or hair in their food. However, an incident has been reported where a customer deliberately planted her hair to get a refund at a restaurant in Blackburn, England. According to a New York Post report, the incident took place at Observatory, a popular eatery where the woman came for her meal with a companion. However, she failed in her intentions after the surveillance camera captured her every move. Sharing the footage on Facebook, the restaurant owner Tom Croft warned other businesses from such tricks.
According to his Facebook post, the owner had to refund the couple’s beef roast dinner after she created a scene alleging that there was hair in her meal. The owner later reviewed the CCTV footage, only to find the shocking truth. The video shows the woman pulling out a strand of hair and placing it on her partner’s half-eaten plate.
Noting that he was “very disgusted and angry” after the incident, Croft mentioned how people are willing to put a business reputation and stuff shops at risk for just a $15 meal. He also noted that the allegations could have ruined that business’s reputation if it was not discovered.
“I was disgusted and very angry. We’ve not had anything happen like this before. If we hadn’t found the CCTV footage, then our reputation would be a major concern and a big worry. We have a five-star food hygiene rating and adhere to all the food safety guidelines. People don’t want to eat in places where you find hair in food,” he wrote.
However, before he could have confronted the customer, she was long gone from the restaurant with the refund. While reacting to the video, a user wrote, “The audacity of some individuals” while another one said, “This is disgusting behaviour, well done for sharing.”
“Oh god that’s really bad! I hope you hadn’t already refunded them before you saw this footage,” a third one commented.
Notably, this comes at a time when restaurants often face flak for actually preparing their orders carelessly, thus resulting in the violation of food hygiene.
