Despite the unusual design of the helmet, the biker was praised for being responsible and wearing it.

Wearing a helmet while riding a two-wheeler is one of the simplest but most important road safety tips. All over India, bike riders can be fined up to Rs 1,000 for not wearing a helmet as they ride a scooter or bike. However, even then many people refuse to wear a helmet. Against this backdrop, a video that shows a man wearing a unique helmet and in turn prompting an amused reaction from a policeman is raking in likes. The undated video shows a policeman interacting with a biker who covered his helmet with a Pikachu-themed cover. The policeman curiously inspects the Pikachu-themed helmet’s ears and jokingly asks “Kharghosh ho kya?” meaning “Are you a rabbit?”, as the onlookers laugh. He then praises the biker for wearing the helmet nonetheless and says that it looks good.

It is unclear when and where this clip was taken, but so far it has gathered over one lakh views on X. Commenting on it, a person wrote, “That cop is a humble and fun loving guy….” Another said, “Spotted one such helmet in Hyderabad recently.”

In August, a bike enthusiast shared a clip that showed a cop appreciating his bunny helmet by giving an ‘OK hand gesture’ and smiling as the biker drove past him.

These are not the only videos about helmets that have gone viral in recent years. In 2019, a video from Japan’s Parliament, which showed ministers and other bureaucrats trying on foldable helmets that were made to protect them from earthquake-related injuries, went viral.

The clip, posted on social media by Japan’s national news agency NHK World News showed Japan’s then finance minister Taro Aso and foreign minister Toshimitsu Motegi smiling proudly after successfully wearing the collapsible plastic helmets.

Tadamori Oshima, the speaker of the house, instructs the ministers to learn how to wear helmets and says, “If something happens while parliament is in session, please put on the helmet quickly and be prepared to act in a calm manner. Going forward, I would like you to always be alert when attending parliament.” These helmets were kept under all parliament seats.

Japan, which faces frequent earthquakes, routinely organizes earthquake safety and evacuation drills in government offices, schools, and private businesses.
