Imad Wasim posted on a note on his social media accounts to announce his retirement from international cricket.
All-rounder Imad Wasim announced his retirement from international cricket on Friday. The Pakistan all-rounder has released a statement on his social media accounts where he bids adieu to international cricket but he will continue to play the franchise leagues across the world.
Wasim was part of Pakistan’s 2017 Champions Trophy-winning side but was out of the 50-over side for a long time. He last played an ODI way back in 2020 while he made a return to T20Is earlier this year on the Afghanistan series but was left out of the squad after the series versus New Zealand.
Wasim took to X, formerly known as Twitter to announce the big decision of his international retirement.
“In recent days I have been doing a lot of thinking about my international career and I have come to the conclusion that now is the right time for me to announce my retirement from international cricket. I would like to thank the PCB for all their support over the years – it has truly been an honour to represent Pakistan,” Wasim penned a note.
Meanwhile, the southpaw wished the new coaching and leadership group of the Pakistan team success in the future.
“Each of my 121 appearances across the ODI and T20I formats was a dream come true. It’s an exciting time for Pakistan cricket going forwards with new coaches and leadership incoming. I wish all involved every success and I look forward to watching the team excel,” he added.
The 34-year-old further thanked the fans, family and friends for their support throughout his career.
“Thank you to the Pakistan fans for always supporting me with such passion. A final thank you to my family and friends who have been so important in helping me achieve at the highest level. I now look forward to focussing on the next stage of my playing career away from the international stage,” he concluded.
