The song was a hit and Malaika got recognition by the name Chaiya-Chaiya Girl, although she was not the first choice for this song. Raveena Tandon was being cast first in this song and then Shilpa Shetty. However, luckily this song came to the credit of Malaika, who had not received any special recognition till then. Farah Khan recently attended the Alpha Network event held in Kolkata. During this, while talking about the popular song Chaiya Chaiya, he said, We signed Malaika in that song just 2 days before the shooting started, because every heroine had refused for that song. That’s why I say that a person should be present at the right place at the right time. At that time no one knew that Malaika Arora was a model.
Farah further said, I knew him through Arbaaz Khan. Although till then I did not even know whether she was a good dancer or not. We had offered this song to many heroines from Shilpa Shetty to Raveena. Every heroine had refused to do that song for some reason or the other.
Malaika Arora used to be a VJ
