Suryakumar Yadav shared,” Other than toss, everything (went well). Boys showed character and that was most important for us. We spoke in the meeting before the game to go out and express yourself and be fearless.”

Australia had managed to win the toss and asked the hosts to bat first.

India had also made some changes to their side with the likes of Ishan Kishan, Tilak Varma, Prasidh Krishna and Arshdeep Singh missing out for the likes of Shreyas Iyer, Jitesh Sharma, Mukesh Kumar and Deepak Chahar.

After a fine start by the openers, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad who brought up a fifty-run stand, India were under pressure as they lost wickets quickly with Jaiswal and the senior players like Shreyas Iyer and Suryakumar Yadav departing in quick succession.

But Rinku Singh managed to shine once again and managed to build a partnership worth 48 runs with Ruturaj Gaikwad. Jitesh Sharma managed to turn up as he managed to score 35 off just 19 deliveries to get a big boost for India.

Among the bowlers, it was spinners who managed to stand out in the second innings. Ravi Bishnoi managed to pick up one wicket for just 17 runs in his quota while Axar Patel managed to stand out as he picked up three wickets for just 16 runs in his quota of four overs.

The Indian skipper praised his performance with the ball, he added, “I always love putting Axar under pressure and the way he bowled was unbelievable. The plan (during the deathovers) was to go for the yorkers and then see what happens.”

Axar started his innings with a wicket of the dangerous Travis Head in the powerplay. He then managed to get the wicket of Aaron Hardie in his second over along with Ben McDermott in his final over to give India the momentum as they went on to secure the victory by 20 runs and seal the series.
