However, MIT Technology Review points out a critical gap in research when it comes to understanding the impact on our mental health, identity and behaviour. The limited research available already signals serious risks, especially for young users.

An alarming trend emerges, where girls, from an early age, are more inclined to use filters for beautification rather than playful experimentation. Given that social media is recognized for its negative effects on the mental health and body image of young individuals, this raises concerns. According to a Dove survey, a staggering 80% of girls have already utilised filters or photo editing to alter their online appearance by the tender age of 13.
