Many people found the calligraphy video to be extremely satisfying to watch.

Watching someone write smoothly and without interruption in beautiful handwriting can be extremely satisfying to watch. Now one such calligraphy video is raking in likes on Instagram. On Tuesday, a popular Instagram account Pubity shared a video that showed a woman writing posters seamlessly using different point-size markers. The text on the posters was in Portuguese and it appears that the calligrapher was writing posters for grocery stores as she mentioned special offers and discounts. The calligrapher barely paused while writing and moved from one letter to another in a sure-footed manner, adding to the video’s appeal. Within two days, this clip got over 3.8 lakh likes.

The calligrapher in the video is Priscila Richter from Brazil. She has over 73,000 followers on Instagram. Appreciating Richter’s skills, an Instagram user wrote, “No overthinking….complete confidence in placement and hand movement…just dives right in….” Another mentioned, “The hand-eye coordination level is above 9000.”

A person noted, “These types of signs are the most common thing in grocery stores and such here in Brazil, but I have no idea how people learn that stuff.”

Many people mentioned that they found the video oddly calming. Echoing this sentiment, a person wrote, “Idk why this makes me so happy, probably satisfying the ocd in me bc it’s so perfect. I have that steady hand touch when writing but I love watching others apparently.” Another said the same thing and remarked, “This is why I can’t get anything done during the day Cuz my OCD brain needs to watch this over and over so I can feel warm & fuzzy inside.”

An Instagram user suggested that Richter can earn a good sum if she live streams her calligraphy sessions and wrote, “She probably can make more money doing that on a live streaming, on some platform like TT or Twitch. Lol.”

Many calligraphers have built a strong social media following in recent years, thanks to their therapeutic writing skills. Seb Lester is one of the most popular calligraphers on Instagram with over 8.5 lakh followers.

While speaking to the New York Times about his social media practice, Lester said, “So much of calligraphy is about movement and rhythm, and a short video can capture the beauty and the magic of calligraphy in a very Internet-friendly format. Recurring words in people’s comments are ‘mesmerizing,’ ‘hypnotic,’ and ‘satisfying.’ For reasons I don’t fully understand, people clearly enjoy watching the process of something perceived as ‘perfect’ being made from start to finish.”
