Man’s ‘Titanic’ reference to Gurugram-based company preferring woman, graduates for a tech job has internet ROFL.
“Woman and children first” – these words reverberated on one of history’s most harrowing nights when the Titanic found itself sinking in 1912. Captain Edward Smith’s stern ultimatum, threatening to shoot men unless they yielded lifeboat seats to women, created a moment etched in the collective memory. It’s a scenario no man would willingly sign up for, prompting contemplation on why it consistently falls on their shoulders when it comes to self-sacrifice. However, injecting a dose of wit into this serious narrative, a tech-savvy individual recently drew a poignant yet humourous parallel to a company, dubbing it another ‘Titanic.’ The company’s unveiling of a job role with a preference for women and graduates over ‘anyone’ prompted the cheeky comparison.
On the micro-blogging site ‘X,’ @Immortal_abdul shared a snapshot of a LinkedIn job listing from a Gurgaon-based company in search of a Software Development Engineer (SDE). Amidst the detailed role description, the company boldly declared, “Female students preferred,” and “Second/third-year students will be preferred.”

While the company clarified that it wasn’t mandatory and men were welcome to apply, the subtle bias spurred the original poster to quip, “Tech hiring these days feels like Titanic, Women and Children first.”
Take a Look:
The online community swiftly caught on to the humour. “Let the ship sink…” exclaimed one user, while another chuckled at the notion of “Titanic women and children.”
Yet, this peculiar job-related incident is not the first to send the internet into a frenzy. Previously, a jumbo interview question surfaced on social media, injecting humour into the otherwise tiresome job-hunting process. Shared by Instagram user Nugget, the post showcased a screenshot from a job application that deviated from the standard inquiries about qualifications and career goals. Instead, the interviewer posed a bizarre challenge, asking, ‘You have been given an elephant. You can’t give it away or sell it. What would you do with the elephant?’
