Rana Naidu Is The Only Indian Show In Netflix's Top 400 Viewership Report – News18

Non-English stories generated 30% of all viewing on Netflix.

Netflix released an extensive report covering the viewership data for 99 percent of its catalog on Tuesday. The report, titled ‘What We Watched: A Netflix Engagement Report’ listed more than 18,000 titles alongside, their release date, global availability status, and number of hours they were watched. Since 2021, Netflix has been putting out its weekly list of ‘Global Top Ten’, and its ‘Most Popular Lists’ which mentions the ‘10 most popular titles in each category, based on views in their first 91 days on Netflix.’ Now it has come up with a full engagement report which it intends to publish twice a year.

As per ‘What We Watched: A Netflix Engagement Report’, American action thriller The Night Agent, was deemed the most watched show on the platform with 812.1 million hours of viewing. It was followed by the comedy-drama Ginny & Georgia: Season 2 with 665.1 million hours of viewing. Korean thriller The Glory: Season 1 stood at the third spot with 622.8 million hours of viewership.

The only Indian program that made it to the top 400 was the action crime drama Rana Naidu which was released on March 10. 2023. It was streamed for 4,63,00,000 (forty-six million three hundred thousand) hours.

The series stars Venkatesh Daggubati, Suchitra Pillai, Rana Daggubati, Surveen Chawla, and Gaurav Chopra in lead roles. It is an official adaptation of Showtime’s 2013 crime drama series Ray Donovan.

While sharing its engagement report, Netflix said in a statement, “This is a big step forward for Netflix and our industry. We believe the viewing information in this report — combined with our weekly Top 10 and Most Popular lists — will give creators and our industry deeper insights into our audiences, and what resonates with them.”

The streaming giant concluded some trends based on the viewership data and noted that non-English stories generated 30 percent of all its viewing.

The success of shows like Ginny & Georgia, the Bridgerton series, and film sequels Murder Mystery 2 and Extraction 2 showed the power of established series. It also highlighted that series like The Night Agent, The Diplomat, Beef, and The Glory, generated active fandoms despite being news.

Netflix also pointed out that many shows did well way after their premiers. For instance, films like All Quiet on the Western Front debuted in October 2022 and yet generated 80 million hours of viewership between January and June.
