Parliament Winter Session Updates: Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha Adjourned

The Lok Sabha has been adjourned till 2 pm today as opposition members raise slogans demanding a statement from the Home Minister on the security breach. Three criminal law bills and the Post Office Bill are listed for discussion in the Lok Sabha today after the Parliament was adjourned yesterday after continued protest over the suspension of Thirteen MPs from the Lok Sabha and one MP from the Rajya Sabha during the proceedings of the Winter Session of the Parliament.
The Opposition MPs condemned the suspension, saying that it is the right of every elected public representative to ask questions.
Private Members Business on Resolutions is expected to be taken up in both Houses.
Among the 13 MPs suspended from the Lok Sabha, nine are from the Congress, two from the CPM, one from the CPI, and one from the DMK. Earlier, DMK MP SR Parthiban’s name was also included by mistake among the list of MPs suspended from the Lower House. Parthiban was not present in the House on Thursday.
In the Rajya Sabha, TMC MP Derek O’Brien was suspended for the rest of the Winter Session for ‘gross misconduct’ and ‘defying the Chair’ during the proceedings on Thursday morning.
The proceedings of the house will resume today. The winter session of the Parliament will conclude on December 22.

Rajya Sabha has been adjourned. The Chairman said an investigation into the security incident is under investigation and will be taken to its logical conclusion.

The US authorities “encountered” with over 200,000 illegal Indian immigrants in the last five years with the highest cases of 96,917 reported in 2022-23, according to details furnished in Parliament by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) yesterday while citing data from American homeland security.
Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan said the US authorities came across 8027 illegal Indian immigrants in 2018-19, 1227 in 2019-20 and 30,662 in 2020-21.
The number in 2021-22 was 63,927 while 96,917 cases were reported in 2022-23
