Rohit Sharma captained MI in 163 matches in which they emerged victorious on 91 occasions, and lost 68 matches, while four ended in ties.

It’s the end of an era for Rohit Sharma as Mumbai Indians captain. On Friday, MI named Hardik Pandya as their skipper for the next season of the IPL. He will take over the captaincy charge from the swashbuckling opener who led Mumbai to five Indian Premier League titles.

Rohit started his IPL career with Deccan Chargers but in IPL 2011, Mumbai Indians splashed 2,000,000 USD to sign him. A couple of years later the franchise took a big decision to name him captain of the side midway in IPL 2013 after their poor start to the season. Ricky Ponting graciously handed over the captaincy to tenure which was the foundation of a new era in IPL.

In his first season as skipper, Rohit led Mumbai Indians to their first IPL title and went on to become one of the most successful captains in the tournament history.

Here is a look at Rohit Sharma’s title triumphs in IPL as Mumbai Indians captain.

IPL 2013: A young Rohit was given the big responsibility to fill in the big shoes of Ricky Ponting after a horrible start to the season. Rohit’s appointment changed the fortune of the team as he led them from the front by scoring 538 runs and guided them to their maiden IPL title which was the start of a glorious era for both MI and skipper Rohit.

IPL 2015: Mumbai Indians once again had a poor start to their campaign as they lost five out of their six matches, but they didn’t hit any panic button as Rohit’s inspirational captaincy helped them lift the trophy for the second time. They won 9 out of our last 10 matches to get add the silverware to their trophy cabinet.

IPL 2017: It was a season where Mumbai Indians scripted history by becoming the first team to win three IPL titles with a win over Rising Pune Supergiants in the final. It was a well-balanced unit but Rohit used the resources effectively to put collective efforts on the field and script history.

IPL 2019: After failing to qualify for playoffs in IPL 2018, Mumbai Indians bounced back in style with another title triumph as they beat Chennai Super Kings in the final. It was a thrilling clash where Lasith Malinga held his nerves and helped Mumbai beat rivals Chennai by just 1 run.

IPL 2020: Rohit’s inspirational captaincy journey continued in the 2020 season where he led the team to back-to-back titles. They dominated the tournament by finishing the league stage at the top of the table and then they outclassed Delhi Capitals in the final to become the first team to win record 5 titles which was later equalled by Chennai Super Kings in 2023.
