One personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was killed while another was injured as Maoists opened fire on them while they were returning from an outpost in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma, nearly 400 km away from the capital Raipur, on Sunday.
The incident took place at Bedre village in the Jagargunda area of Sukma. Sub-Inspector (SI) Sudhakar Reddy and Constable C Ramu were returning from an outpost which is situated just 200 meters from Bedre camp when two young villagers they met on the way fired on them, according to an official statement.
Ramu received two shot wounds on his shoulder and two on his hand. He was rushed to the camp in injured condition, the statement said.
SI Reddy went missing after the attack. A joint search party of 165 battalion of CRPF and a CoBRA unit later found his dead body.
“Waiting for a chopper to evacuate the injured,” added the statement.
The 165 Battalion of CRPF and the Chhattisgarh police have set up a Forward Operating Base (FOB) at Bedre in Sukma, a highly Maoist-affected area of the state, after 17 years in February this year.
