“I was trying to keep it simple,” Arshdeep began.

Arshdeep had gone wicketless in his first three ODI outings but managed to open his tally with an inspirational spell against the Proteas on Sunday.

“I hadn’t opened my account in ODIs and it is great to start with a fifer,” the 24-year-old said.

Arshdeep also opened up about the discussion the team had before going out to bowl and how pleasantly surprised the team was with the movement available on the day.

“The wicket was helpful. When we had a chat, we thought there wouldn’t be much movement. We spoke earlier that there wouldn’t be much movement but we were surprised, there was a breeze too so the plan was to keep it wicket to wicket and look for lbw/bowled,” he revealed.

“Adaptability is the key for us as bowlers.”

The young seamer also expressed how proud he was to represent that nation and put in a good performance.

“Proud to represent the country and do the job,” Arshdeep continued.

He added that the statement performance had perked up his spirits despite not having played the ODI format for a while.

“It was quite hot as well. I’m playing the 50-over format after a long time, so it was difficult but I’m feeling fresh after the fifer,” he said.

“Even we thought that the pitch was abrasive but there was some moisture in the wicket, so the ball remained fairly new,” the Indian pacer concluded.
