Actor Saif Ali Khan had a secret marriage with actress Amrita Singh, who was 12 years older than him, at the age of just 21. Saif had kept the matter of this marriage hidden even from his family.
Recently Saif appeared on Karan Johar's chat show Koffee with Karan with mother and veteran actress Sharmila Tagore. While talking about this secret marriage, Saif told that when he told his mother about the marriage, she started crying.
Saif and Sharmila discussed this on the sets of Koffee with Karan.
Sharmila and Tiger remained silent after hearing the news
Sharmila said- 'I was in Mumbai then. Saif came to meet me and gave me the news of his marriage, hearing which I was completely heartbroken. I remained completely silent. Saif looked at me and said, Amma, what has happened to you, your color is changing.
Then I controlled myself and told Saif that it is okay.. we will talk about this later and as soon as Saif left, I called Tiger (Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, Saif's father) and told him the whole thing. He also remained silent for some time. Sharmila further told that she also met Amrita the next day after Saif and Amrita's wedding. He discussed with Amrita while drinking tea. She also liked it but still Sharmila was in shock.
When Saif married actress Amrita, he was only 21 years old. Whereas Amrita was 33 years old.
'I told mother that I got married yesterday itself'
Recalling that day on the show, Saif said- 'Mother has always been supportive of me, but that day when I told her about my marriage, she had tears in her eyes. Mother said that I am sure you are living with someone but do not marry yet. And I replied to them that I got married yesterday itself. Hearing this, tears fell from her eyes and she started crying. Mother said why didn't you tell me… you have hurt me a lot.
'Saif said- For me it was like running away from home'
When Karan asked Saif the reason for marrying him at such a young age, the actor said – 'For me, it was like running away from home wisely. I had a kind of security and I felt safe with this idea. I thought I could build my house this way.

Tiger became very sad after Saif-Amrita's divorce: Sharmila
While talking about the divorce of Saif and Amrita in the same interview, Sharmila said that Tiger and I were also very saddened by the divorce of these two. We felt most bad for Ibrahim because he was only 3 years old at that time. Ibrahim was Tiger's beloved and after their divorce, both the children also went away from us. Tiger started feeling very sad after that.
While talking about this, Saif said that after getting married at the age of 20, many changes came in my life. However, Amrita has always been supportive of me and even today we share a good and respectful relationship.

Saif-Amrita separated after 13 years of marriage
According to reports, Saif and Amrita got married on 27 October 1991. At the time of marriage, Saif was 21 and Amrita was 33 years old. There was an age difference of 12 years between them and after 13 years of marriage, both of them separated in 2004. Amrita and Saif are parents of two children (Sara Ali Khan and Ibrahim Ali Khan).

Later Saif married Kareena Kapoor Khan for the second time. Both have two children Taimur and Jeh. Whereas Amrita did not marry again.
