Today we will review Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi starrer film Merry Christmas. The length of the film is 2 hours 24 minutes. Dainik Bhaskar has given the film a 2.5 star rating out of 5.
What is the story of the film?
The story of the film takes place when Mumbai was called Bombay. The story starts with Vijay Sethupathi playing the role of Albert, who has returned to his home after seven years. According to him he was in Dubai, but the reality is something else. On the occasion of Christmas, he goes to the club, where he meets Katrina Kaif, seen in the role of Maria, and her daughter, who is sitting with a teddy bear. Maria's boyfriend has run away leaving her and her daughter without informing them.
Circumstances develop such that Maria and Albert become closer that night. After that Maria takes Albert to her home. After this, the real story of the film begins, in which a murder mystery is shown with many twists and turns.
The film has been released only in Hindi and Tamil languages.
How is the acting of the star cast?
Vijay Sethupathi is famous for getting into every character. This is the reason why he has become the first choice of Bollywood filmmakers. He has portrayed the character of Albert brilliantly on the big screen and at many places he will even make you laugh.
On the other hand, Katrina Kaif has also tried her best to dominate the screen with her acting. However, at some places she has missed the expression. Sanjay Kapoor and Vinay Pathak have got less screen space, but despite this both have done a tremendous job.
How is the direction?
The film has been directed by Sriram Raghavan. He is known for giving out-of-the-box films. But, this time he failed to live up to the expectations. The very simple climax along with the predictable story has made the film a bit weak.
At some places he has tried to tie the film to the direction, but in the very next moment he has failed.
Sriram Raghavan is known for films like Badlapur, Agent Vinod and Andhadhun.
How is the music?
The background music of the film is quite good as per the suspense drama. The song 'Raat Akeli Thi' in the voice of Arijit Singh is very enjoyable to listen to.
Positive points of the film
Vijay Sethupathi's acting is the most positive point of this film. Despite less screen space, Sanjay Kapoor and Vinay Pathak have also done an excellent job.
Negative point of the film
Sriram Raghavan has missed this point in direction. After 2018's Andhadhun, he has made a comeback with this film. In such a situation, the audience had a lot of expectations from him, but he did not live up to it.
On the other hand, there are some scenes in the film which have been dragged out unnecessarily at many places. Some scenes could have been made more intense.
This is Vijay Sethupathi's second Hindi film. Earlier, he was seen in the role of villain in the film Jawan.
Final Verdict, watch or not?
If you like suspense drama films then you can definitely go to the theater once for Merry Christmas. Some scenes of the film are very special and will also remind you of old Bollywood films.
