Dharmendra and Amitabh Bachchan starrer film 'Sholay' was released 48 years ago on 15 August 1975. The film took 6 years to make. Amitabh Bachchan dies in the climax of this film. Which still irritates the audience even today. Everyone is interested in knowing the reason for his death in the film. Due to this, director Rohit Shetty made a revelation related to the film in an interview. He told that in those days the second lead hero or the hero's friend had to die in the film.
The reason behind the climax of the film
Rohit Shetty told that in those days, often in the films, the hero's friend or the younger hero had to die. He said that at that time Amitabh Bachchan was a smaller hero than Dharmendra. Because he does not have a single solo scene in the film. He has only one scene with aunty. From this it can be assumed that he played the role of Dharmendra's friend. This was the reason why he had to die in the film.
Rohit said that the film did not run at all for 4 days after its release. People were giving different reasons for this. Some people cited Amitabh Bachchan's death as the reason for the film not running. Actually, by this time Amitabh Bachchan had become a big star. While some cited Gabbar's voice as the reason for the film not working. Once the makers even thought of reshooting the film if it did not do well.
He told that Amitabh left a mark on the strength of his acting in the film. Despite this, his character was that of a friend. By this time his films Zanjeer and Deewaar had also been released. Dharmendra, Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini played lead roles in Ramesh Sippy's film.
Sholay, made for 3 crores, earned 35 crores
The budget of Sholay had increased from Rs 1 crore to Rs 3 crore. No one expected the film to do good business. Same thing happened, the film's earnings were disappointing for the first few days. But gradually, due to word of mouth publicity, the film gained such momentum that it created new earning records. The film earned Rs 35 crore. No film could break its earning record for 20 years.
There are many interesting things related to the film which are unheard of even today. The character of Surma Bhopali was not present in the film earlier, it was added later. The role of Thakur Baldev Singh played by Sanjeev Kumar was the name of writer Salim's father-in-law i.e. Salman Khan's maternal grandfather, he was a retired army officer.
