Boney Kapoor had invested his entire family's money in this film, so if the film did not work, he could have gone bankrupt. The film's director Shekhar Kapur himself has told this in an interview.

Recently, during an interview with Ranveer Allahabadi, Shekhar Kapur narrated an interesting incident during the making of Mr. India. He told that producer Boney Kapoor and lead actor Anil Kapoor were very scared during filmmaking. He said, Anil Kapoor was scared the day the film started. He is very afraid. Boney was also very scared, he was wondering whether the film would work or not. He had said, all our money invested, that of the entire family, will be exhausted. There was fear, no one knew what would happen.
