Barkha Madan, once a famous actress, has now become a monk. Barkha, who once gave a tough competition to Aishwarya Rai and Sushmita Sen with her beauty, is now living a simple life away from glamor and the city. After winning the Miss Tourism crown, Barkha made a name for herself by making her Bollywood debut with the film Khiladi Ke Khiladi alongside stars like Akshay Kumar and Rekha. However, in 2012, Barkha suddenly left the film industry and became a monk.

In 2002, he heard Dalai Lama Jopa Riponche during an event in Dharamshala. Inspired by his words, Barkha joined Buddhism. Even after this, she was a part of films and TV shows, but one day in 2012 suddenly Barkha announced that she was leaving the glamor world and becoming a Buddhist monk. Barkha, who was once seen in designer clothes, now wears only one kind of simple clothes.

Aishwarya and Sushmita were given competition in Miss India

Barkha Madan participated in Miss India Beauty Pageant in the year 1994. Sushmita Sen had won this pageant, while Aishwarya Rai stood second. Barkha could not win this pageant, but by giving tough competition to both of them, she won the title of Miss Tourism. Barkha had won the title of third runner up in the International Miss Tourism Competition.

After this pageant, Barkha got a chance to make her Bollywood debut with the 1996 film Khiladi Ka Khiladi. Later she was a part of films like Driving Miss Pamlane, Tera Mera Pyaar, Bhoot, Samay, Soch Lo and Surkhaab. Apart from films, Barkha has also appeared in TV shows Ghar Ek Sapna, Saath Phere and Nyaya.

Barkha is always seen in plain clothes most of the time practicing Buddhism in Dharamshala. Apart from this, she also joins the Tara Children Project of Buddh Gaya and serves HIV infected children. Barkha considers becoming a Buddhist monk as the best decision of her life.
