Why Nawazuddin Siddique Felt 'Guilty' After Taking Money For 2019 Film Petta – News18
Nawazuddin recently made his Telugu debut with the film Saindhav.
Nawazuddin Siddique acknowledged that he couldn’t understand the language, yet he nevertheless worked on Petta.
In the era of pan-Indian stars and the national appeal of regional cinemas, many actors from one film industry play roles in movies from another industry. While movies from the Southern industries are also being dubbed and released in Hindi, many actors from Hindi cinema are also working in the Southern film industries, gradually removing the boundaries set by the common masses between different industries. Since the actors do not know the language well, most of the time, their voices are dubbed by a regional artist and in most cases, it works fine.
However, Bollywood actor Nawazuddin Siddique does not feel the same way about delivering lines in a language he is not well versed in. He spoke about his experience of working in Rajinikanth’s 2019 film Petta as the main villain. He recently made his Telugu debut with the film Saindhav and was speaking during one of its promotional events.
“After the film’s production, I felt a great deal of remorse about working on Petta with Rajini Sir because I felt like I was accepting money for something I had no idea what I was doing. I believed that I had embarrassed them by lip-syncing when I was being prompted. I was lip-syncing to dialogues I did not understand and it made me feel guilty,” he remarked.
He acknowledged that he couldn’t understand the language, yet he nevertheless worked on the movie. “Even if it is praised later on, you feel like hiding and when you get paid for it, you start to wonder if you are being dishonest. I was weak at the thing I was paid money for. That eluded my understanding. I feel really bad about that,” he added.
This is the reason Nawazuddin Siddique did not want the same experience with his Telugu film Saindhav. He insisted on dubbing his lines in the film and also made sure that he understood the meaning of every word he was speaking.
