Rajkumar Santoshi will appeal against the court's decision: Lawyer said – Prosecution did not present any documentary evidence, director busy shooting 'Lahore 1947'

Famous filmmaker of the 90s, Raj Kumar Santoshi is in the news again these days. On Saturday, Jamnagar Court sentenced him to 2 years imprisonment in the check bounce case. Along with this, the court has also ordered him to pay Rs 2 crore.

Now the statement of Santoshi's lawyer Binesh Patel has come out on this matter. He said, 'We will appeal against the court's decision in this case. At present, the court has put a stay on this decision for 30 days and has granted bail to Santoshi ji.

Rajkumar Santoshi had borrowed Rs 1 crore from Jamnagar businessman Ashok Lal in the year 2015. This whole matter is about the same loan.

'Prosecution did not present any documentary evidence'
Binesh further said, 'The prosecution has not yet presented any documentary evidence that Santoshi has taken money from him. The prosecution itself has admitted that a third party had collected the money. In return, the third party gave 11 checks worth Rs 10 lakh, about which Mr. Santoshi had no knowledge. The magistrate ignored this and ruled against us.

Thus, checks have been altered on the basis of false claims and no one even bothered to call the third party who had deposited the money. That too when Santoshi ji did not have any information about this. Therefore, we will take this matter to the High Court and throw light on all these things.

'Santoshi is paying the price of living in limelight'
Binesh further said, 'There is nothing problematic in this matter. This is a fake case. There is no merit in the matter. This is just the price Santoshi has to pay for being in the limelight. Since you are a big name, you become news even without any news. We will go to the magisterial court regarding this matter.

These days Santoshi is working on his next film with Aamir and Sunny. Aamir is the producer of this film.

Santoshi said- 'My entire focus is on work'
While talking to the media on this matter, Santoshi said, 'This matter will end very smoothly. I have full faith in the judiciary. I am going to shoot my next directorial film 'Lahore 1947'. Shabana ji is going to start shooting for this film today or tomorrow. I have never worked with him before so my entire focus is on work.

Santoshi and Ashoklal were once close friends
Talking about this whole matter, in the year 2015, Rajkumar Santoshi had borrowed Rs 1 crore from Ashok Lal, a businessman from Jamnagar. He did not repay the borrowed money on time. In such a situation, Ashoklal had filed a case against Rajkumar in the court of Jamnagar. In 2019, Rajkumar Santoshi also appeared for hearing in Jamnagar Court.

After this, Rajkumar once gave 10 bank checks of Rs 10 lakh each to Ashok Lal to repay the money, but all those checks bounced. Initially the court had told Santoshi that she would have to pay Rs 15,000 to Ashok Lal for every bounced cheque. But now the court has given its verdict in the case. Now he will have to pay double the loan amount to Ashok Lal.

At one time, the pairing of Santoshi and Sunny was considered the guarantee of a superhit film.

Santoshi working with Sunny-Aamir after years
Rajkumar Santoshi stepped into direction in the year 1990 with the film 'Ghayal'. Sunny Deol was seen as the lead actor in this. After this he gave many hit films with Sunny like 'Damini' and 'Ghatak'. Santoshi also worked with Aamir in 'Andaz Apna Apna' released in 1994. Now after years, he is working with both the actors on 'Lahore 1947'.
