Nariman Irani was a well-known producer of the Hindi film industry. Amitabh Bachchan's famous film 'Don' was made by producer Nariman Irani to pay off his loan of lakhs of rupees. But before the film could be completed, he died in an accident. However, the shooting of the film did not stop but was completed.

Actually, Nariman Irani had made a film named Zindagi-Zindagi, which flopped badly at the box office. Due to this film he had incurred a debt of lakhs.

Nariman met Amitabh Bachchan-Zeenat Aman and director Chander Barot during the film 'Roti Kapda Aur Makaan'. Nariman was working as a cinematographer in this film.

The actors and director of this film had a good relationship with Nariman Irani. They all knew that the producer was in huge debt. Due to their good relationship, Amitabh Bachchan, Zeenat Aman and the film's director Chander did not take any fees for this film. He worked for free in this film.

Amitabh Bachchan-Zeenat Aman and director Chander said that we will take money only when the film makes good collections at the box office.

No one wanted to buy the script of 'Don'

Before Chander Barot and Nariman Irani, no one was ready to buy the script of Don from Salim-Javed. Dev Anand, Prakash Mehra and Jeetendra had rejected it. Till that time no title had been given to the script. Don was just a character in the script. When Nariman Irani approached Salim Khan, he said – 'We have a breakfast script lying with us, which no one is taking.' On this Irani said, 'Will do'. This is how 'Don' reached the floor.

Manoj Kumar had given advice

Before starting the film, Nariman had narrated the script of the film to Manoj Kumar. After listening to the story, Manoj Kumar gave him some advice. He said that the film is full of action, so add a song after the second half. Following Manoj Kumar's advice, Nariman went to music composer Kalyan ji Anand. When he told the whole thing to the music composer, only after this the famous song of the film 'Khaike Paan Banaras Wala' was made.

The story of Amitabh Bachchan's film Don was written by the Salim-Javed duo. Its director was Chander. Nariman Irani died even before the shooting of 'Don' was completed. The producer lost his life in an accident at Kamalistan Studio. But the shooting of the film was not stopped. Irani's wife Salma and the rest of the film team put in their best efforts to complete the film.

If reports are to be believed, no publicity or promotion of any kind was done after the release of Don. It proved to be the third biggest hit film of the year 1978.
