Priyadarshan Says Hera Pheri Is A 'Closed Chapter For Him'; REVEALS Teaming Up With Akshay Kumar Again – News18

Priyadarshan explained why Hera Pheri is a closed chapter for him.

Priyadarshan explained in a recent interview why Hera Pheri is a closed chapter for him.

Ever since Hera Pheri 3 was announced, avid fans of the franchise cannot wait to see the iconic trio of Raju, Shyam and Baburao together once again. However, the film won’t be helmed by Priyadarshan who has previously directed Hera Pheri and Phir Hera Pheri. The film-maker will be embarking on a different project instead that is dubbed as a horror thriller. In his recent interview, Priyadarshan explained why Hera Pheri is a closed chapter for him.

As quoted by Times Of India, Priyadarshan said, “I cannot engage in familiar territory; it stifles my creativity. That’s why I declined the offer for Hera Pheri 2. My days with Hera Pheri are behind me. For me, that chapter is closed. Akshay and I have explored numerous comedic ventures, both together and individually. Now, I’m eager for us to venture into uncharted territory. Hence, we’re refining the script.”

Sharing more details about the spooky thriller with Akshay Kumar, Priyadarshan stated, “Although the concept is brilliant, I felt there were areas that needed refinement. The film can be best described as a supernatural thriller where the audience will be kept guessing until the very end whether there’s a ghostly presence or not. It’s uncharted territory for both Akshay and me.”

Hera Pheri 3 continues to follow the hilarious misadventures of Raju, Shyam, and Baburao as they get caught up in a funny but risky journey filled with hidden treasure, mix-ups, and crime-solving.

Priyadarshan is a celebrated Indian film director, screenwriter, and producer known for his work primarily in Malayalam cinema but has also made significant contributions to Bollywood and other regional film industries in India. Over his career, spanning several decades since the early 1980s, Priyadarshan has directed over 95 films across multiple genres, though he is particularly renowned for his comedy films.

‘Hera Pheri’ is one of Priyadarshan’s most iconic and successful Bollywood projects, which has achieved a cult status over the years. Released in the year 2000, ‘Hera Pheri’ is a comedy-drama that features leading Bollywood actors Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, and Paresh Rawal in pivotal roles. The film is an adaptation of the 1989 Malayalam film ‘Ramji Rao Speaking,’ which itself was influenced by the 1971 television movie ‘See The Man Run.’

The narrative of ‘Hera Pheri’ revolved around three struggling individuals with unique quirks and personalities, who find themselves entangled in a comical series of events after receiving a prank call from a kidnapper. The film brilliantly captures the essence of Mumbai’s daily hustle and intertwines it with a humor-infused plot, leading to various misadventures and, eventually, a heartfelt quest to right their wrongs.

Priyadarshan’s direction in ‘Hera Pheri received widespread acclaim for its impeccable timing, use of situational comedy, and the way he balanced humor with elements of drama and emotion. The film’s success led to a sequel, ‘Phir Hera Pheri’, directed by Neeraj Vora, which also became a major hit.

‘Hera Pheri’ is often cited as one of the best comedy films in Bollywood, and it significantly contributed to the careers of its main cast, especially establishing Akshay Kumar as a leading comedic actor in the industry. The film’s dialogue, scenes, and characters have become deeply embedded in Indian pop culture, making it a beloved classic among audiences of all ages.
